It’s been a long while since i last had access to a dark room, i needed a brief introduction and a few trial and errors to get back into it but now it’s great fun! I used the image of the wine glass that i found behind Cardiff national museum (I may or may not have taken it as a souvenir… don’t worry – i won’t drink from it) to experiment with. I exposed each section for 0.2 seconds and i think i settled with 0.8 seconds.
I love the inevitability of using a film camera, you have to spend time positioning, correcting the focus and exposure, accept that you won’t be able to see the photo until the very end and move on. Also, i had a few moments when i forgot the camera was black and white, i photographed something that’s colourful only to realise it’ll probably look dull when i print it.
